Award-winning Korean pianist Jiin Kim performs with strong technical control as well as a refined sense of emotional expressivity. Jiin has not only appeared as a soloist, but her concert activities reflect a variety of her interests: chamber music, collaborative works, large-ensemble works, and premiering new music.
Jiin Kim has won several competitions including the Harrison Winter Piano Competition, the William Knabe International Competition, the Korea Young Artist Competition and the YMIC International Competition. She has also won top prizes at the Hong Kong-Asia Open Competition, the Nanpa Competition and the Korea Herald Piano Competition. She was awarded both a Piano Excellence Scholarship and the Academic Eminence Scholarship at Seoul National University.
Jiin has performed solo recitals throughout Korea, Europe, and the United States. Her performances include appearances at Muiderslot in Holland, Musikhochschule Trossingen in Germany, Carnegie Hall in Manhattan, Friedberg Hall and Griswold Hall in Baltimore, Uijeongbu Arts Center and Flugel Hall in Korea.
With a demonstrated interest in new music, she has appeared in the New Music Series Studio 2021 concerts in Ilsin Hall and the Museum of Art in Seoul. She has also premiered new compositions at the Seoul International New Music Conference and at the Joongang Music Concours.
Jiin has participated in Festival Musicalp, The International Holland Music Session, and the Obidos International Piano Festival. She has also played in masterclasses with Christopher Elton, Pascal Roge, Boris Berman, Mikhail Voskresensky, Oxana Yablonskaya, Oliver Kern, Phillip Kawin and Rebecca Penneys.
Jiin started playing piano at the age of three, and quickly discovered a passion for sharing musical stories with audiences. After studying at Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, Jiin Kim received her Bachelor of Music degree at Seoul National University where she studied with Ick Choo Moon and from which she graduated Summa cum Laude.
Jiin has earned the Master of Music degree from Peabody where she received the Pauline Favine Memorial Award in Piano. A student of Ellen Mack, she is continuing her studies in the Doctor of Musical Arts program, with a graduate assistantship in keyboard studies.
